Chinese Thread Books (Zhen Xian Bao) are a mid-to-late 18th century folk art practiced in several provinces in China. Upon first glance, what looks to be a paper wallet, reveals several layers of hidden boxes on closer inspection. Though it may look complicated, this structure is quite simple. Originally made to hold sewing needles, threads and patterns for folk artists in China, current paper artists have found unlimited uses for these structures. In this class, paper artist Leslie Cefali will teach one of a variety of methods of Chinese Thread Book construction. Also shared will be an abundance of variations so you can adapt this art form in endless possibilities. Please bring a bag lunch for the day. Ages 14+ welcome
