The Art Barn School of Art seeks to engage a part-time executive director (with intention to grow to full time) for 20 hours per week, without benefits, at $20/hr.   We hope to fill this position by January 2019

The Art Barn School of Art, not-for-profit since 1984, is dedicated to fostering the love of art in its beautiful rural setting and strives to always be a place of inspiration for the creative soul, and  provide support for all ages of artists.

We seek a dynamic, multi-talented Executive Director with a passion for both the arts and education, and who will provide successful leadership and management of the organization under the strategic direction of the Board of Directors.

The successful candidate will be creative, energetic, self-motivated and solution-oriented. They will possess the proven ability to work well with others and will have knowledge of business practices such as budgeting.   The ideal candidate will have the expertise to analyze operations and help conduct a strategic plan.

Primary responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Collaboration with the Board of Directors to develop and review the organization’s mission, vision and strategic plan.

  • Execute board-approved policies and direct and oversee the approved strategic plan as well as develop and implement operational plans, policies and goals that will further the mission of the organization.

  • In collaboration with the Board of Directors, write and submit grant proposals and applications.

  • Network with potential donors and actively make connections with the arts community.

  • Act as the spokesperson for the organization and represent it at community activities to enhance the organization’s community profile.

  • Develop, and propose to the board, each year’s annual budget, monitor compliance with the current year budget and ensure that the board is advised of major deviations.

QUALIFICATIONS of the successful candidate:

  • Has a passion for both the arts and education, preferably with BA in a related field.

  • Demonstrated ability as an effective communicator, in both writing and speaking.

  • Is organized and deadline oriented with leadership and managerial skills.

  • Demonstrated experience with computer systems such as Windows, Google Suites, Microsoft Office, and social media.
