Exploring the Inner Terrain With Art, Apr. 5 and 6, 1-4 pm

Many art classes teach techniques for improving painting or drawing… Here the focus is on the inner terrain – to explore and find healing through artistic expression. Students may
  •  heal blocks
  •  deepen connection to inner and outer flow
  •  imagine and visualize possibilities
  •  gain access and open to inner creative dimensions
In this 2 day workshop you will deepen the experience of art as a healing, meditative modality.  Listening, finding, exploring, imagining and expressing your own unique creativity.  Students can connecting to their own spiritual qualities finding a healing, deep satisfaction… “resting in movement” while creating artwork.
Bring your own supplies.  Only two things required for each day-
1.  Something to express yourself with:  Paint (tempera, acrylic, watercolor, or other); or pastels (oil or chalk), or colored pencils, drawing pencils, markers, or charcoal; or any combination of these. (Whatever speaks to you for this class)
2.  Something to express yourself on:  Watercolor paper, sketch pad, pastel paper, computer paper, or whatever you like, so you have enough for each day.  You will need 5 for each day of class.  The paper should be at least 81/2 by 12 inches. Bigger is ok. Bring extra in case you get really creative

Diana Plenys has been an artist her whole life, including dance and music.  Including her latest juried “Best of Show” most recently, she has exhibited at museums and galleries, and has sold her paintings through commissioned work and art fairs. Diana is a registered nurse with Board Certification in holistic nursing (AHNA), a yoga and meditation teacher, and is certified in using the arts in transpersonal healing techniques for stress management. She is a published author, and has recorded a healing meditation CD.  Currently retired from nursing, she leads a simple and spiritual life as she paints and exhibits with the Duneland Plein Air Painters.

Art Quilt Barn Camp, June 12 – Aug 7, 2019, 10 am – 3 pm

 Art Quilt Barn Camp is a fun series of classes suitable for ages 16 and up with no experience required! Come ready to dive in  with an open mind and the willingness to enjoy the creative process through  play and exploration. Students will create a selection of Art Fabrics by combining and layering different Fiber Reactive dyeing and printing  techniques, which can then be utilized to create their own Art Quilt.
All materials are included. Students may also bring other suitable cotton or plant based fabrics for further experimentation.  
Students will need to provide their own plastic shoebox containers with lids. 
Students should bring a sack lunch and beverage, dress for mess and weather with old clothes or apron, and old comfortable shoes. A camera, notebook, sunscreen, hat and bug repellant are also helpful. Students will come away with the basic knowledge, experience and printed resources to continue exploring these techniques on their own. 

June 12  #1 Intro to Dyeing/Color Exploration : Using Dye Painting and Low water immersion techniques we will explore color( in theory and practice) through mixing and hue and value gradations 

June 19   # 2 Resists/Ice Dyeing : Chemical and Physical methods will be explored through common household substances (flour,potatoes etc) as well as clamping folding and binding techniques to create patterned resists to our dyebaths

June 26.  #3 Printing: Create patterning on fabric by direct printing. We will make our own motifs by creating our own blocks for block printing, print with various found objects and learn monoprinting. Deconstructed Screen Printing will also be introduced 

July 3.  #4 Silkscreening: Learn how to stretch your own screen to use in so many different ways. We will be employing freezer paper, latex paint, interfacing, and tape as well as dried flour paste and Colored dye paste for Deconstructed techniques

July 10 #5 Fugitive Media: Colored Pencils, Charcoal, Conte Crayon etc. Learn how to go back into your fabrics create highlights and detail using fugitive media and make them permanent

July 17 NO CLASS

July 24 #6 Design : We will employ a design wall and a digital camera to record the design process and explore all the possibilities of our Art Quilt ideas
July 31 #7Construction: Putting it all together! A basic knowledge of using your sewing machine( that is in good working order) is required for this class. 
August 7 #8 Quilting/ Finishing: Options for the final stages of the Art quilt Making process will be covered. Basic Domestic Machine quilting will be covered ,some big hand stitching  options  and several binding/Finishing techniques will be demonstrated

Paint Party for Adults

All supplies, coffee and tea, and soft drinks are included in this fun 2 hour party. One of our experienced instructors will help you choose your subject and media. Watch our calendar and Facebook page for upcoming public Paint Parties.
