OPEN CLAY STUDIO with Artist in Residence

Open Clay Studio is open to past Art Barn ceramics students. This is an independent studio time for students to hone their skills and finish their clay projects. Artist in Residence Samantha Purze will assist with clay reclamation, firing, and distributing additional clay. 5 pounds of clay per day is included. $2 per Ib of additional clay will be available for purchase. Class size limited to 6 students. Ages 18+

 

WEDNESDAY WATERCOLOR

Painting with Watercolor

With Instructor Julia Holmaas beginning and intermediate students will explore warm and cool color combinations to create landscape paintings with different techniques of applying watercolor to create desired effects. Students will explore how to capture landscape components such as trees, rocks, skies, grasses, and water. Each week a painting will be completed using photo references and real-life as composition references. There will be plenty of time for Q & A. All supplies included. Ages 18+

With Instructor Harold Woodridge, students will learn the basics of working with clay. Students will explore slab, coil, and wheel-throwing to create functional and decorative work. Students may choose to work on the wheel or hand-build during this session. This class is appropriate for beginning or experienced potters. Class size limited to 6 students. All supplies included. Students will be guided by an experienced instructor, Suzie Rosso, who will help participants advance their style and technique with her gentle approach. Students provide their own supplies and transport their works to and from each class. Ages 18+

With Instructor Suzie Rosso, students will learn the basics of figure drawing by drawing from a clothed or nude model during each class. If you've always wanted to learn how to draw a figure accurately or add "life" to your artwork this class is for you! Suzie will guide you step by step to creating figures that look like they could walk right off the paper. A supply list will be provided. Ages 18+

Students will be guided step by step through the process of painting with soft pastels with experienced artist and instructor Mary Ann Pals. A 5-week series, designed for those new to the process, will provide a couple weeks of instruction before intermediate and advanced students join the class on week 3.  Students will be provided with a supply list after the first class. Ages 18+

INTRODUCING WATERCOLOR

Watercolor Painting

Julia teaches a six-week introductory watercolor class designed for the total beginner and those with minimal watercolor experience. This introductory six-week basic beginner class familiarises students with a double primary palette, using the watercolor brush and creating watercolor washes, warm and cool color combinations, designing a composition, and leaving white along with various techniques for creating texture. The last two classes will further explore watercolor methods depending on the student’s interests. Each week students will paint from photographs or a still life set-up to create an original painting. Supplies included. Ages 18+

Art Reviews will take place after the open studio. Come for open studio and receive feedback on your work at the end of class. Or stop by and bring in one piece for a review by an Art Barn instructor, a visiting artist, local artists and/or your peers. Ages 18+

LUMINOUS LANDSCAPES: WATERCOLOR IMPRESSIONISM WITH BETTY CARR

VIRTUAL INTENSIVE WORKSHOP

Jan. 27- Jan. 29, 2022, 1:00pm-4:00pm

$183/person 3-day virtual workshop

Join us in learning how to use watercolors to create a luminous impressionist landscape with instruction from Betty Carr. Carr is the author of the acclaimed instructional book, " Seeing the Light: An Artist’s Guide". Carr is a signature member of the Knickerbocker Society of Artists and Arizona Plein Air Painters. She has been selected as a Master Artist in the American Impressionist Society AISM signature. During this 3-day virtual workshop, Betty will demonstrate techniques to help create light, color, and movement to create a luminous landscape. A supply list will be provided. Ages 18+ 

K-9 PORTRAITS WITH JAMES SWANSON

INTENSIVE WORKSHOP

April 22 - 23, 2022, 9:00pm-4:00pm

$260/person 2-day workshop

Join OPA, NOAPS, and AIS Signature Artist James Swanson, who is known for his Dog Day Month painting series. This 2-day workshop will begin with the initial paintings design, move to the painting palette for the color mixing then a quick demo with a paint along, followed by a class critique. Lunch provided. A supply list will be provided prior to workshop. Ages 18+

HOLIDAY GLASS WORKSHOP

Saturday, November 13

Ages: 14 + 

$65/person

Instructor Mindy Milan will provide an introduction to the fascinating world of warm glass or glass fusing. Students will create jewelry-size pieces, small plates, and candle holders utilizing several techniques. Watch glass melt in the kiln, and learn about the colors and processes of forming glass. Learn a new skill and make gifts for loved ones! All materials provided.  Pieces will be available  for pickup at Art Barn on Sat, Nov 20 from 10am-2pm
