Open Clay Studio is open to past Art Barn ceramics students. This is an independent studio time for students to hone their skills and finish their clay projects. Betsy Barger will assist with clay reclamation, firing, and distributing additional clay. 15 pounds of clay per total is included. $2 per Ib of additional clay will be available for purchase. Class size limited to 6 students. Ages 18+

With Instructor Harold Woodridge, students will learn the basics of working with clay. Students will practice and explore wheel-throwing to create functional and decorative work. This class is appropriate for beginning or experienced potters interested in improving their wheel-throwing skills. Class size limited to 5 students. All supplies included. Ages 18+

Students will be guided by an experienced instructor, Suzie Rosso, who will help participants advance their style and technique with her gentle approach. Students provide their own supplies and transport their works to and from each class. Ages 18+

FIGURE DRAWING

With Instructor Suzie Rosso, students will learn the basics of figure drawing from a clothed or nude model during each class. If you've always wanted to learn how to draw a figure accurately or add "life" to your artwork this class is for you! Suzie will guide you step by step to creating figures that look like they could walk right off the paper. A supply list will be provided. Ages 18+

WATERCOLOR BASICS

With Instructor Kim Vander Vinne, students will learn how to blend colors, apply watercolor to different surfaces, use different techniques, and create a unique palette. Every week paintings will be created from photos or still-life setups. This introductory watercolor class is for the complete beginner and those with minimal experience. All supplies included. PAINTING WITH PASTELS

Students will be guided step by step through the process of painting with soft pastels with experienced instructor Mary Ann Pals. A 5-week series, designed for those new to the process will provide a couple weeks of instruction before the intermediate and advanced students join the class on week. A supply list will be provided. GUEST ARTIST WORKSHOPS

WATERCOLOR LANDSCAPES: DELIBERATE DESIGN: WITH RATINDRA DAS
INTENSIVE WORKSHOP
Sep. 29- Oct. 1, 2022, 9:00am-4:00pm

During this 3-day workshop, returning guest artist Ratindra Das, will provide demonstrations followed by guidance throughout the day. Watercolor landscapes will be broken down into deliberate designs. Design elements and principles including composition, shape, value, movement, unity, and color will be addressed over the course of this workshop. Lunch will be provided each day. A supply list and assignments will be provided in advance. Ages 18+

COLORED PENCIL: DELICATE TO DYNAMIC WITH KRISTY KUTCH
INTENSIVE WORKSHOP
March 24-25, 2023, 9:00am-4:00pm
$370/person 2-day workshop
Colored pencil is the ideal medium for creating stunning art. Kristy Kutch is the author of two colored pencil techniques books and is featured in four instructional films. She is a positive, supportive instructor who welcomes students with all levels of experience. With an emphasis on floral art with waxy (non-watercolor) pencils, students will create paintings, as these works are aptly called, on white, colored, and varied surfaces. Kristy offers demonstrations, personal attention, and a wealth of information. An array of materials, such as paper, blenders and sample pencils, will also be given to participants. Welcome spring with a floral inspiration! Lunch provided. A suggested supply list will be provided.

SPECIAL CLASSES

BARREL-FIRING WORKSHOP
Saturday, September 10
12:00-4:00pm
$75/person
Join instructor Harold Woodridge for a one-day barrel firing workshop. Spend the day using alternative firing techniques using foil saggars in an oil barrel kiln. Learn how to construct a barrel kiln, preparation of Terra Siglatta, and how to use combustible materials to create different effects on the clay. Participants may bring up to 3 bisque-fired stoneware or raku pieces (no larger than 10 inches tall) to be fired. All other materials will be provided. Finished works will be available for pick up during office hours.

HOLIDAY GLASS WORKSHOP
Saturday, November 10
10:00am-1:00pm
$75/person
Instructor Mindy Milan will provide an introduction to the fascinating world of warm glass or glass fusing. Students will create jewelry-size pieces, small plates, and candle holders utilizing several techniques. Watch glass melt in the kiln, and learn about the colors and processes of forming glass. Learn a new skill and make gifts for loved ones! All materials provided. Pieces will be fired off-site and scheduled for pickup at Art Barn during office hours. Ages 14+
