Painting Pottery

Thursdays, 6:00 – 8:30pm

Session 2: Jul. 29 - Sep. 2

This class is for students with some experience working with clay who have a basic understanding of hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques. Instruction with Harold Woodridge will focus on complex forms such as handles, spouts, and lids, as well as surface decoration. Class size limited to 6 students. All supplies included. Ages 18 and older.

WEDNESDAY WATERCOLOR

Painting with Watercolor

Wednesdays, 1:00pm – 3:30pm

With Instructor Julia Holmaas beginning and intermediate students will explore warm and cool color combinations to create landscape paintings with different techniques of applying watercolor to create desired effects. Students will explore how to capture landscape components such as trees, rocks, skies, grasses, and water. Each week a painting will be completed using photo references and real-life as composition references. There will be plenty of time for Q & A. All supplies included. Ages 18+

Students will be guided step by step through the process of painting with soft pastels with experienced artist and instructor Mary Ann Pals. A 5-week series, designed for those new to the process, will provide a couple weeks of instruction before intermediate and advanced students join the class on week 3.  Students will be provided with a supply list after the first class. With Instructor Suzie Rosso, students will learn the basics of figure drawing by drawing from a clothed or nude model during each class. If you've always wanted to learn how to draw a figure accurately or add "life" to your artwork this class is for you! Suzie will guide you step by step to creating figures that look like they could walk right off the paper. A supply list will be provided. Ages 18+

INTRODUCING WATERCOLOR

Watercolor Painting

Julia teaches a six-week introductory watercolor class designed for the total beginner and those with minimal watercolor experience. This introductory six-week basic beginner class familiarises students with a double primary palette, using the watercolor brush and creating watercolor washes, warm and cool color combinations, designing a composition, and leaving white along with various techniques for creating texture. The last two classes will further explore watercolor methods depending on the student’s interests. Each week students will paint from photographs or a still life set-up to create an original painting. Supplies included. Ages 18+

Students will learn the basic skills needed to draw anything they see, strategies that unify these skills, and the acceleration techniques that will help them to become faster without sacrificing accuracy. Join us for a day of learning how to paint birds using watercolor. Peggy Macnamara is a celebrated watercolor artist who has served as Chicago’s Field Museum of Natural History’s Artist-in-Residence for 30 years. Macnamara has traveled with Field Museum scientists all over the world to paint nature and illustrate conservation efforts. She has published 4 books in collaboration with museum scientists through the University of Chicago Press. We have teamed up with Humane Indiana to provide live models to enhance this experience. Composition is arguably the most important and difficult principle for an artist to understand since it utilizes all of the other elements of painting. Without a strong composition, your work may go unnoticed. Mark breaks down the elements of composition into simple and understandable ideas. You will learn the underlying principles that lead to a strong composition, including 10 ways to create and lead the viewer to focal points, and how to create harmony through the use of value, shape, and color. Join us in learning how to use watercolors to create a luminous impressionist landscape with instruction from Betty Carr. Carr is the author of the acclaimed instructional book, " Seeing the Light: An Artist’s Guide". Carr is a signature member of the Knickerbocker Society of Artists and Arizona Plein Air Painters. She has been selected as a Master Artist in the American Impressionist Society AISM signature. During this 3-day virtual workshop, Betty will demonstrate techniques to help create light, color, and movement to create a luminous landscape. A supply list will be provided. Ages 18+

SILK DYEING WORKSHOP

Join instructor Lee Bauman for a one-day silk dyeing workshop. Learn the fascinating art of dyeing silk. Different styles and techniques will be demonstrated. Come design your own scarf and learn a new skill. Scarves will be available for pick up on Saturday, June 26 from 10am-2pm.

COLLAGE WORKSHOP

Join instructor Suzie Rosso in learning the art of collaging on canvas, a fun, no-stress way to create a painting! No experience necessary. Just bring a couple of possible subjects (photos or pictures from a magazine) and a lunch. We'll just cut & glue our way to a beautiful heartwarming painting that's ready to frame. Supplies will be provided.

HOLIDAY GLASS WORKSHOP

Instructor Mindy Milan will provide an introduction to the fascinating world of warm glass or glass fusing. Students will create jewelry-size pieces, small plates, and candle holders utilizing several techniques. Watch glass melt in the kiln, and learn about the colors and processes of forming glass. Learn a new skill and make gifts for loved ones! All materials provided.  Pieces will be available  for pickup at Art Barn on Sat, Nov 20 from 10am-2pm
